ABOUT US
A choir of mixed voices, Marlow Music Makers was established in July 2009.
We try to ensure that our rehearsals and our concerts are light hearted and fun for everyone involved. Our concert programmes may include popular songs from around the 1920s up to the present day along with appropriate musical numbers played by our own musicians. With this in mind, we leave the performance of operatic, religious or other classical works to choirs in the district which specialise in those areas.
Our activities are centred around two main concerts, in June/July and December respectively, in The United Reformed Church, Oxford Road, Marlow. In addition, we are happy to accept invitations to sing at other events in and around Marlow.
We rehearse in Marlow on Tuesday evenings and we maintain a programme of social events throughout the year to which partners of choir members are invited.
There is no requirement for members to be able to read music and we are reluctant to turn any aspiring singer away. But we have to ensure that our choristers are able to sing in tune and are able to maintain a good attendance record at rehearsals. We offer associate membership of the choir to friends of members and others who may wish to support the choir and join in our social activities.
Clearly, we must generate sufficient income to cover our costs – through membership subscriptions, fund raising activities and ticket sales. But beyond that, we aim to donate the proceeds from our concerts to local charities. We have to date made annual donations of at least £1,000.
